Liam Neeson is set to return for a sequel to the 2021 action-thriller “The Ice Road” titled “Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky” which switches the location from Northern Canada to Nepal.
The sequel will see Neeson return as big-rig ice road driver Mike McCann who, honoring his late brother’s last wish, travels to Nepal to scatter his ashes on Mt. Everest.
2While on a packed tour bus traversing the deadly 12,000 ft. terrain of the infamous Road to the Sky, Mike and his mountain guide encounter a group of Nepalese mercenaries.
They soon must fight not only to save themselves and the busload of innocent travellers, but also the homeland of the local villagers.
The original and sequel are the brainchild of writer-director Jonathan Hensleigh returning after a ten-year break from feature filmmaking. Hensleigh famously penned the scripts for films like “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” “Jumanji,” “The Saint,” “Armageddon,” and “Next”. He made his directorial debut on the Thomas Jane-led “The Punisher”.
Netflix acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the first film for $18 million and digitally released it on the service in June 2021 – quickly becoming the most-streamed film on the service in its debut weekend. Amazon Prime took the film in the United Kingdom.
Code Entertainment, ShivHans Pictures and Envision Media are producing. Filming is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
