Lionsgate

Donald Sutherland has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” his upcoming Paramount+ series about the legendary lawman that’s scored a new name and a slight retooling.

The project, the fourth installment in the “Yellowstone” franchise following the mothership series along with spin-offs “1883” and”1923,” the project was originally going to be a limited series titled “1883: The Bass Reeves Story”.

Now, it has been reconfigured as an anthology series titled “Lawmen” with this first season focusing on Reeves with David Oyelowo still onboard to play him. Subsequent installments will cover other iconic lawmen throughout history.

The series will follow Reeves, who worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory. He captured over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.

Sutherland will appear in the show in a recurring role as Judge Isaac Parker, described as an “imposing and commanding judge in the Fort Smith Courthouse with a complicated legacy.”

Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, and Demi Singleton also star, whilst Dennis Quaid, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley will recur. Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund are set to guest star.
