Markiplier Sets “Iron Lung” Movie

Mark Edward Fischbach, better known as YouTuber ‘Markiplier,’ is making the jump to the movies.

Now, production has commenced on “Iron Lung” – a new horror film which Markiplier is starring in, producing, and directing from his own script along with self-financing the project. Caroline Rose Kaplan will co-star.

Plot specifics are under wraps, but the project is said to be based on David Szymanski’s bestselling 2022 submarine horror game of the same name. In that game, a player controls a silent protagonist that controls a midget submarine.

Gameplay is set entirely within the one-room submarine, with minimal room to move around. With no viewing ports, the player must use their map and the submarine’s camera to navigate the game – and certain events can also occur at various points, such as oxygen and pressure changes. Will Hyde and Jeff Guerrero also produce the film.

Fischbach created his channel in 2012 and became known for his playthroughs of survival horror games. These days he has a reach of 69 million users and is one of the top five highest-paid YouTube stars, along with co-hosting the popular podcasts Distractible and Go! My Favorite Sports Team. He’s also the co-founder and creative director of the clothing company Cloak.
