Numerous works of filmmaker Zack Snyder have all had director’s cuts, special editions or other versions than the one released. That could be the case again with his upcoming two-part sci-fi feature epic “Rebel Moon” at Netflix.
Andy Koyama, a re-recording mixer on “John Wick: Chapter 4,” recently spoke with Slashfilm about that film and revealed he’s not only working on “Rebel Moon,” but that they will be doing extended R-rated cuts for each of the movies.
Shot together and production wrapped back in December after an eight-month shoot, the story follows a colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of the tyrannical regent Belisarius (Ed Skrein).
In a desperate attempt, the civilians send out a young woman (Sofia Boutella) to seek warriors from other planets to fight the tyrannical armies. Of his work on the film, Koyama says they have just done the “first temp mix for the preview of part one”. He adds:
“It’s very exciting. It’s a big, huge, space – they probably don’t want me to say this – ‘Star Wars’-y, ‘rebels against the evil empire’ thing over all sorts of different worlds. It’s really fun. There’s going to be two films. I think we’re mixing that from June to February. And there’s also going to be extended R-rated versions of each of the two films, so we’re going to be mixing four different features.”
Anthony Hopkins, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Michiel Huisman, Jena Malone, Cary Elwes, Ray Fisher, Corey Stoll, and Alfonso Herrera co-star.
“Rebel Moon” is set to hit Netflix on December 22nd, no word if the R-rated version will be released simultaneously or at a later date.
