Tim Allen Confirms “Toy Story 5” Return

Following Disney CEO Bob Iger announcing that a fifth “Toy Story” feature is on the way, actor Tim Allen has confirmed he’ll be reprising the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the new film.

In an excited tweet about his return, Allen says: “See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond!”.

The announcement follows in the wake of last year’s release of “Lightyear” which saw Chris Evans voice a character that inspired the toy from the “Toy Story” films. That film was considered a rather disastrous box-office failure, pulling in $226.4 million from a $200 million budget whilst reviews were only softly positive. The film did pull in very good numbers for its Disney+ debut after its theatrical run.

Allen’s former “Home Improvement” co-star tweeted out at the time of that film’s release: “Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal Tim Allen. Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?”.

Allen has been voicing Buzz Lightyear since the 1995 debut of the franchise alongside his co-star Tom Hanks who also was confused by the “Lightyear” recasting, saying: “They didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that”. As the fifth “Toy Story” was only just announced, it’s likely several years away from release at this time.
