“Tulsa King” Showrunner Exits Ahead Of S2

Paramount+

A Taylor Sheridan-verse series is losing its showrunner as Terence Winter is stepping down from his post running the Paramount+ mob drama “Tulsa King” starring Sylvester Stallone.

The show’s first season has already wrapped production and so the show will press on with a new showrunner in place before the second season begins filming. The show was quickly renewed just three episodes into its run and a search is now underway for a suitable replacement.

The exit reportedly stems from creative differences which isn’t surprising. During press for the series, Winter indicated he and Sheridan (on whose initial idea the show was based) had different visions for the series and for Stallone’s character.

Stallone stars as New York mafia capo Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi who has just been released from prison and sets up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Realizing that his mob family might not have his best interests in mind, he slowly builds a ‘crew’ from a group of unlikely characters, helping establish a new criminal empire.

Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, A.C. Peterson, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany co-star in the series.

Winter will remain an executive producer alongside Sheridan on the series as he shifts his focus to other projects, including a top-secret streaming series with his “Boardwalk Empire” collaborator Martin Scorsese. Winter is also planning a limited series about New York Mets’ historic 1986 run.

Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Allen Coulter and Braden Aftergood all serve as executive producers on “Tulsa King”.
