Marvel Title Dropped From “Hit-Monkey” S2

Hulu and Marvel Television’s planned four-show animated series slate has been whittled down to just one show left – and now it’s dropping the ‘Marvel’ part of its title.

Hulu has renewed “Hit-Monkey” for a second season, the renewal order coming more than a year after it debuted on Hulu in November 2021.

The only other series of the four that Marvel Television greenlit back in 2019 to make it to air, “M.O.D.O.K.”, was cancelled after a single season early-mid last year. The proposed “Howard the Duck” and “Tigra & Dazzler” series never moved past development and were scrapped.

With Marvel Television now defunct, and the job of Marvel shows now running out of Marvel Studios, 20th Television Animation is taking over “Hit-Monkey” which is why the Marvel name is being dropped from the show’s title. The Marvel logo will still be attached to the show in other ways.

The story follows a Japanese snow monkey whose tribe is slaughtered as he joins forces with the ghost of an American assassin and they begin killing their way through the Yakuza underworld. The series scored mostly positive reviews upon release though it’s not clear how successful it was ratings wise.

Season two will unfold in New York and the voice cast features Olivia Munn, Jason Sudeikis, Ally Maki and Fred Tatasciore. Leslie Jones will join the show for season two. Co-creators Josh Gordon and Will Speck remain as executive producers.
