The planned revival of the hit animated comedy series “King of the Hill” will not be happening at its original home on the FOX network.
Mike Judge and co-creator Greg Daniels recently formed their Bandera Entertainment production label with the ‘King’ revival listed among the series the company was working on. Judge himself indicated back in July that chances of it happening were “very good”.
Now, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn tells THR that his network’s focus is on its newer animated series and so they aren’t looking back at their legacy shows:
“That [King of the Hill revival] is not going to be with Fox. We love that team, and we love that show. It’s obviously part of our animation legacy. But we’re really focusing on animation, launching kind of the next wave of our signature animated series while still having our great legacy shows.”
The network is set to launch a number of high-profile animated series over the coming months, including “Grimsburg” with Jon Hamm and Dan Harmon’s “Krapopolis”. In addition, renewal talks are currently underway over its long-running series like “Bob’s Burgers,” “The Simpsons,” and “Family Guy”.
Bandera meanwhile has the animated dark comedy procedural “Bad Crimes” in the works at Netflix starring Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus.
