Actor Martin Compston has spoken about the future of the celebrated British police procedural “Line of Duty” which aired its sixth season back in May to massive numbers in the UK.

Appearing on the Radio X show “The Chris Moyles Show” (via The Independent), Compston was asked for any updates on when a seventh season is coming.

The series famously has extended hiatuses of around two years between seasons and so far a new run hasn’t gone into production. Still, Compston believes the show will return:

“People are now really intrigued to see if there is another one, but there’s nothing changed for us in terms of where we’re at after we finish a series… We always take a year between [seasons] at least.

The dust settles and [creator Jed Mercurio] figures out whether there’s a story to tell. So I’m delighted that people are so excited and so desperate to find out but, as I say, this is what we’ve done after every series so we’ll just wait and see what he thinks.”

The sixth season also saw complications of filming due to pandemic-related delays which saw production halted a month after beginning in February 2020 and then resuming that September.

The final episode of the sixth season pulled 12.44 million viewers in the UK.
