David Dastmalchian (“The Suicide Squad”), Marin Ireland (“The Umbrella Academy”), Vivien Lyra Blair (“Bird Box”) and Madison Hu (“Voyagers”) have signed on for the adaptation of the Stephen King short story horror-thriller “The Boogeyman” at 20th Century Studios.
The story follows a sixteen-year-old (Sophie Thatcher) and her younger sister, still reeling from the death of their mother, as they are targeted by a supernatural boogeyman after their psychologist father (Chris Messina) has an encounter with a desperate patient in their house.
Penned in 1973 and collected in his “Night Shift” anthology, the film’s synopsis sounds quite different to the story which did not feature any teenagers.
Rob Savage (“Dashcam”) helms the film which has begun production in New Orleans, and will debut in 2023 on Hulu in the U.S. and on Star via Disney+ globally. Mark Heyman wrote the most recent script while Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are producing.
