Downey Jr Black Re Team On Parker

Following their collaborations on “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and “Iron Man 3,” actor Robert Downey Jr. and writer/director Shane Black are looking to re-team again for a hardboiled detective yarn.

Matthew Belloni of Puck News’ What I’m Hearing newsletter (via The Playlist) reports the pair are developing a new film based on the career criminal anti-hero character Parker from author Donald E. Westlake (writing as Richard Stark).

The main protagonist across 24 novels, the rather irredeemable and ruthless character has been adapted for the screen several times before – as John Boorman’s 1967 film “Point Blank” starring Lee Marvin, Brian Helgeland’s 1999 film “Payback” starring Mel Gibson, and the 2013 film “Parker” with Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez.

Jim Brown, Robert DuVall, Peter Coyote and Michel Constantin have also played differently named versions of the character.
