Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly in talks to star while “Edge of Tomorrow” and “Go” helmer Doug Liman is circling to direct the upcoming remake of cult 1989 action classic “Road House” at MGM.
No deals have been signed as yet but active talks are underway with MGM reportedly seeing the project as a priority at the studio.
The original starred Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a bouncer hired to clean up a rough-and-tumble bar in Missouri and his successful enterprise attracts the ire of town’s powerful and corrupt businessman (Ben Gazzara).
The film grossed $30 million against a reported $15 million budget and since gone on to become a beloved cult classic in certain circles thanks to its various elements from a scene-stealing supporting turn by Sam Elliott (and his hair) as Swayze’s old friend and mentor, to its camp appeal and hardcore nature.
Gyllenhaal will shortly begin shooting Guy Ritchie’s Afghanistan War thriller “The Interpreter” while Liman will next direct the adventure film “Everest”.
