“Wong Kar Wai” Classics Get 4K Re-Release

Janus Films has announced “The World of Wong Kar Wai,” a touring retrospective theatrical run of seven of acclaimed filmmaker Wong Kar Wai’s best films which have all received brand new 4K restorations courtesy of The Criterion Collection and L’immagine Rtrovata.

The retrospective will debut November 25th at Film at Lincoln Center in New York, to be followed by a nationwide rollout from December 11th in Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C., and more. Hopefully (but not a confirmed) a Criterion box-set is also on the way next year.

The mini-festival will include all but one of Wong’s directorial efforts throughout the 20th century from his debut with 1988’s “As Tears Go By” to one of the greatest movies ever made with 2000’s “In the Mood for Love”.

Also included is the U.S. premiere of the celebrated “Chungking Express,” the iconic “Happy Together,” early works like the highly acclaimed “Days of Being Wild” and the lesser known “Fallen Angels,” and a director’s cut of his short “The Hand” for the 2004 anthology film “Eros”.

Notably missing is 1994’s “Ashes of Time” in either its original or ‘redux’ form, or his more recent fare like 2005’s “2046,” 2008’s “My Blueberry Nights” or 2013’s “The Grandmaster”. Wong is currently at work on his “Blossoms” TV series.
