Showtime has picked up the one-hour series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” starring Kirsten Dunst with plans to air the first season this Summer. As part of the announcement, they’ve released the official trailer.
Set in an Orlando-adjacent town in 1992, Dunst plays water park employee Krystal Stubbs who balances her minimum-wage job with various schemes as she makes her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise, a cult-like pyramid scheme run by a powerful man named Obie Garbeau II (Ted Levine).
Charlie McDowell (“The One I Love”) helmed the pilot episode of the series which has a nine-episode first season run. The project was initially set up at AMC in 2017 and boasts Dunst, George Clooney and Grant Heslov as executive producers.
Theodore Pellerin, Mel Rodriguez, and Beth Ditto co-star in the series which will premiere on Showtime on August 25th.
