A Sixth “Shrek” Is In Development?

Dreamworks Pictures, Universal Pictures

A sixth “Shrek” film is reportedly in development and will join the upcoming fifth film to end a nearly two-decade hiatus for the franchise.

Dana Carvey, speaking on his podcast Fly on the Wall, says he has spoken to “Shrek” star Mike Myers, who told him “we’re doing two more”.

It’s presumed one of the two is the upcoming fifth film, which was originally announced for this July but was ultimately pushed back to June 30th 2027.

Zendaya will play the daughter of Shrek (Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). Eddie Murphy returns as the voice of Donkey, but it doesn’t appear as if Antonio Banderas will be back as Puss in Boots.

The first two films were widely loved, the third and fourth not so much with the franchise seemingly ending with 2010’s “Shrek Forever After”.

Walt Dohrn, Conrad Vernon, and Brad Ableson direct the fifth film. No word on when a sixth might go into production.
