Kate Winslet will re-team with her “Titanic” director James Cameron on the “Avatar” sequels, playing a character called Ronal. Filming on the 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment productions officially started on September 25th.
Cameron talked to Deadline about Winslet, who can be seen in “The Mountain Between Us” this weekend, and her addition to the cast:
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
It’s not clear how many of the four sequels the character will appear in. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver all return from the first film while Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin and Jack Champion join with this outing.
“Avatar 2” hits cinemas on December 18th 2020, the third on December 17th 2021, the fourth on December 20th 2024 and the fifth on December 19th 2025.
