Joe Carnahan To Direct “The Raid” Remake

Filmmaker Joe Carnahan has confirmed that’s slated to both direct and produce the remake of Gareth Evans’ iconic action thriller “The Raid”.

In an Instagram posting this morning, Carnahan and actor Frank Grillo are seen on a couch spitballing ideas for the remake with one suggestion involving moving the action to Caracas, Venezuela. Both indicate it will be more a ‘reimagining’ than a straight remake of the original Indonesian action film.

Carnahan followed the video up with some tweets confirming his involvement and adding that the new film “will hew closer in tone & feel to ‘The Grey’ and ‘Narc.” He also says Evans is producing and has given his full blessing.

Carnahan scripted the “Uncharted” film adaptation and was slated to direct but had to pass helming duties on to Shawn Levy due to his commitments to “Bad Boys for Life”.

Recently the new “Bad Boys” has been pushed back nearly a year, leaving a big hole in Carnahan’s schedule. It looks like he might have filled it, and if so that would indicate this is happening sooner rather than later.
