Netflix has announced an April 7th return date for “The Get Down: Part II,” the remaining episodes of the first season of Baz Luhrmann and Stephen Adly Guirgis’ hip-hop musical drama.
The story is set in the late-1970s South Bronx and focusing on six gifted kids at the forefront of the hip-hop musical revolution. Jimmy Smits, Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Herizen F. Guardiola, Skylan Brooks, Jaden Smith, T.J. Brown Jr. and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II return for the new episodes.
The six-episode first half of the series, which premiered in August last year, became famous for being one of the most expensive TV series ever made with the final price tag rumored to be around $16 million an episode. Reviews were soft and ratings agencies who survey Netflix users indicate the show didn’t reach much of an audience.
