This Fall’s “Venom” sees Sony Pictures finally starting to build their own Marvel cinematic universe, something they’ve been planning on and off for almost a decade now.
We know that the new film sees Tom Hardy take on the Venom role, with Riz Ahmed becoming the creature ‘Riot’ who will serve as the film’s lead villain. It’s also clear that Venom’s most famed nemesis, Carnage, is being saved for later.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the film’s director Ruben Fleischer was asked about sequel possibilities to which he confirmed the film does build in teases for a follow-up: “We’ve definitely laid some groundwork for different directions that the franchise could go but obviously it all hinges on people’s excitement about this film. I hope people will stay and see what seeds have been planted.”
It’s believed that Woody Harrelson is set to cameo as Cletus Kasady, the human who becomes Carnage, in the film. Harrelson himself has alluded to the cameo before. “Venom” opens in October.
