The Disney-Fox Acquisition Is Complete

Fox Shareholders Agree To Disney Deal

Almost two years on it’s finally over – Disney’s $71.3 billion deal to acquire key entertainment assets from 21st Century Fox has been completed with the acquisition to become effective just a few hours from now – at 12:02 a.m. US-EST tomorrow (March 20th 2019).

21st Century Fox announced the completion themselves in a statement. Shareholders from Disney and Fox approved the deal back in July last year but the finalization awaited numerous regulatory approvals. Now, Fox has officially joined Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm under Disney’s umbrella.

The deal gives Disney an impressive volume of properties from 21st Century Fox, including Marvel titles like “X-Men,” “The Fantastic Four” and “Deadpool” and these characters are expected to be integrated into Disney’s ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney will also gain full distribution rights to the original 1977 “Star Wars” film along with the rights to franchises like “Alien,” “Avatar” and “Planet of the Apes”.
