Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter” film wrapped shooting in December last year, well ahead of its planned May 2028 release.
Now, a new report at Forbes has gone into the economics of the film via tax filings. The project was shot primarily at Pinewood Studios in the UK, along with location shooting in Sardinia.
The report reveals that the project has racked up $226.5 million in costs through early 2026, though a $51.5 million U.K. tax credit lowers the net cost to about $175 million so far.
That figure does not cover the months of visual effects, post-production and distribution costs to come through ahead of the film’s May 28th 2027 release. By comparison, the film is reportedly costing more at the same point in time in its production than ‘Force Awakens’, is on par with ‘Last Jedi’ and coming in under ‘Rise of Skywalker’.
Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Oblivion”) lensed the movie, which is set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars – specifically five years after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
Ryan Gosling stars as a pilot character named Kade Auberon in the movie which also stars Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Eva Mendes.
