“Elden Ring” Film Budget Is Nearly $200M?

A24 is betting big on its upcoming film adaptation of the video game “Elden Ring,” so much so that the company’s future may ride on its success.

Until now, the reported budget for the Alex Garland-directed fantasy epic was said to clock in at somewhere over $100 million. That’s by far A24’s most expensive movie ever, even if it is actually rather cost-effective for a major fantasy blockbuster.

Now, The Wall Street Journal reports that according to its sources, the film’s budget is now at around “nearly $200 million” – putting it in the same territory as films like “Project Hail Mary,” “Masters of the Universe,” “Jurassic World: Rebirth” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.

Filming on the project ran a tight four months – spanning from April to July this year, but the film isn’t coming out until March 3rd 2028 – a surprisingly long time for post-production, which is likely where a good share of that budget will go.

The previous most expensive films for A24 were “Marty Supreme” with $70 million and Garland’s “Civil War” with $50 million. A24’s most recent major success story was “Backrooms” which cost $10 million but managed to gross $400 million worldwide.

Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz star in the film.

Based on a mythological story written by “Game of Thrones” author George R. R. Martin and developed by FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the story takes place in a mythical realm known as the Lands Between.

It revolves around the Elden Ring – a powerful artifact that has been shattered, plunging the Lands Between into war and chaos. The title has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
