Following “The Batman” director Matt Reeves posting a photo from the first day of filming on the highly-anticipated Robert Pattinson-led reboot in the UK, some new official production details have now emerged.
Peter Sarsgaard’s role has been revealed as Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson while Jayme Lawson will play mayoral candidate Bella Real, both of which are new characters to DC canon. There had been speculation Sarsgaard was going to play Harvey Dent (who eventually becomes Two-Face) though that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The official cast list also includes Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as “the GCPD’s James Gordon” (no mention of commissioner), John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin.
Now that cameras are rolling we may see some more revealing set photos soon, or possibly even an official look at Robert Pattinson in the Bat-suit. In the meantime, check out the full press release below and keep an eye on CBM for updates.
The news comes as Pattinson spoke to The BBC this week and revealed he was jobless at the start of 2019 with no upcoming projects – and then in quick succession, Chris Nolan’s “Tenet” and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” came along: “I remember my agent saying, ‘You’re not really on anybody’s list. The movies are well-reviewed, but they aren’t big hits.’ And then a week later I got another call out of the blue: ‘Do you want to be in a Chris Nolan movie?’ I was like: ‘Wait – how did that happen?'”
“The Batman” is set to open in theaters June 25th 2021.
