The “Sonic the Hedgehog” film, already heavily talked about due to its reworked character design, has hit early box-office tracking and the results… aren’t bad.
Box-Office Pro reports that the film is looking set to land in the range of $20-30 million domestically on opening weekend, only a little behind the likes of other major tentpoles in that weekend in year’s past like “Alita: Battle Angel” which was just shy of $30 million, and “The LEGO Batman Movie” which made just over $30 million.
It’s also ahead of its competition for that weekend including the “Fantasy Island” remake which is expected to land at $17-22 million, and “The Photograph” with $13-18 million.
Sentiment towards the film has gone up in recent months in the wake of the more game accurate redesign having been revealed. Nevertheless, the film is still a video game movie for a property that doesn’t exactly cry out in need of an adaptation, and so big box office is unlikely.
“Sonic the Hedgehog” opens February 14th.
