Filmmaker Sam Raimi effectively helped kick off the modern age of superheroes with the “Spider-Man” movies for Sony in the early 2000s.
Now he’s returning to the Marvel fold as he is reportedly in talks to direct “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” for Marvel Studios.
Scott Derrickson, who helmed the 2016 feature, was originally attached but exited the project over “creative differences”. Derrickson will remain on board as an executive producer.
Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as the Sorcerer Supreme in the film which is said to be Marvel Studios’ first scary movie and will be connected to the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision premiering in December.
Raimi’s last directorial effort on the big screen was 2013’s “Oz the Great and Powerful”. Shooting aims to begin in May this year ahead of a release May 2021.
