A couple of key trailer launches over the past few days which are worth a look.
First up, John Turturro’s “The Jesus Rolls” which sees his “Big Lebowski” character Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) released from prison and pairing up with fellow misfits Petey (Bobby Cannavale) and Marie (Audrey Tautou) as they go on a freewheeling joyride of petty crime and romance.
The new film also serves as something of a remake of Bertrand Blier’s 1974 French film “Going Places”. Shot over three years ago, early reviews haven’t been kind.
Next is Amazon’s “The Vast of Night,” a 1950s New Mexico set tale about a switchboard operator and a charismatic DJ who discover a strange potentially non-terrestrial audio frequency that could change their small town forever.
Then there’s “All the Bright Places,” the next Netflix teen romance weepie in which an introverted girl (Elle Fanning) rediscovers passion for living when she meets the eccentric and unpredictable guy (Justice Smith). That film hits the service on February 28th.
Amazon’s “Blow the Man Down” is a darkly comic indie thriller set around a Maine fishing village. Two girls who recently lost their mother must cover up a gruesome run-in with a dangerous man and to do so uncover the darkest secrets of the town matriarch (Margo Martindale). That film hits the service on March 20th.
Sally Potter’s “The Roads Not Taken” follows a day in the life of Leo (Javier Bardem) and his daughter, Molly (Elle Fanning) as she grapples with the challenges of her father’s chaotic mind – one in which he explores the alternate lives he could have lived. Salma Hayek and Laura Linney co-star.
Amazon’s “ZeroZeroZero” is based on the bookby author Roberto Saviano and explores the inner workings of the global cocaine trade. Dane DeHaan, Gabriel Byrne, and Andrea Riseborough star in the film which hits March 6th.
“Resistance” sees Jesse Eisenberg starring as Marcel Mangel, an aspiring Jewish actor joined the French Resistance to save the lives of thousands of children orphaned at the hands of the Nazis. Mangel went on to become famed mime Marcel Marceau. Ed Harris, Clemence Posey and Edgar Ramírez co-star.
Finally, StudioCanal has released the trailer for “Radioactive” – the biopic about Marie Curie with Rosamund Pike in the lead role and Sam Riley as Pierre Curie. They (but she in particular) change the face of science forever by their discovery of radioactivity.
