Warner Bros. Pictures and Mattel have reportedly partnered to bring Barbie back to the big screen with Margot Robbie set to portray the live-action version of the iconic doll.
Robbie will also co-produce the film through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, alongside Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, says Robbie is ideal to bring the character to live in a “fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences”.
The Barbie adaptation marks the first announced deal to come out of Mattel’s newly-established Mattel Films. Numerous attempts over the years have been made to do a “Barbie” film with the likes of Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer attached at points.
Robbie is about to reprise her Harley Quinn role next month for the “Birds of Prey” shoot.
