Filmmaker Michael Mann is set to present a whole new take on his 2006 film version of “Miami Vice” at Beyond Fest in a little over three weeks.
Announcing its programming line-up today, the Festival revealed it will host the world premiere of a 4K restoration of an all-new version of the film, dubbed “Miami Vice: Director’s Final Cut”.
This version differs from the eight-minute-longer ‘Unrated Director’s Cut’ released on home video, which Mann himself called a ‘revision’ rather than a true director’s cut. He has long stated the theatrical version is his director’s cut.
That appears to have changed with Mann himself set to appear in person at the event. Mann famously didn’t shoot the ending he wanted due to a limited shoot in the Dominican Republic, which was much shorter than originally planned and had to be quickly revised.
There has long been talk of a potential three-hour version of the film existing, but for now – no one seems quite sure what to expect and this version’s runtime is TBA.
Though the film was a dud upon release, as time has passed it has become something of a cult classic, with a screening involving Mann in Los Angeles a little while back stirring a bunch of chatter.
Dawn of the Discs adds that a 4K UHD disc version is also on the way.
