Known more for their off-screen antics in recent years than their on-screen work, actors Shia LaBeouf and Mel Gibson are teaming up for a new black comedy from “Filth” and “Stan and Ollie” helmer Jon S. Baird.
Titled “Rothchild,” the film is said to take a dark and comedic look at New York’s super-rich, with Gibson set to play the patriarch of one of the wealthiest families in the area.
LaBeouf plays Becket Rothchild, the son of a former Rothchild family wife who eloped with a jazz musician. He realises precisely nine Rothchild family members stand between him and his fortune including Whitelaw (Gibson), his sinister grandfather.
With the unique advantage of being unknown to any of them, Becket penetrates the weird and twisted lives of his super-rich kin in order to try and get each one to meet with an untimely accident.
The project is expected to be sold to distributors at the Cannes Film Festival this week by HanWay Films.
