Comedian Kevin Hart is in final negotiations to star in the film adaptation of Hasbro’s popular board game “Monopoly” which is in the works at Lionsgate.
Hart’s frequent collaborator Tim Story (“Ride Along”) is in final negotiations to direct and both Story and Hart will produce alongside John Cheng and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett.
An adventure-filled adaptation of the property has long been in the works with Ridley Scott attached at one time to direct. When Lionsgate picked it up back in 2015, they hired “Gattaca” filmmaker Andrew Niccol to pen the screenplay which “follows a boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both Chance and Community in a quest to make his fortune”. Whether that’s the version they’re sticking with now Hart’s onboard is unclear.
The game itself has been played by more than a billion people in 114 countries and has been translated into forty-seven different languages. Hart will soon begin shooting the third “Jumanji” film ahead of a release later this year.
