Kerry Washington Joins Hulus Sci Fi Blues

Former “Scandal” star Kerry Washington has signed on to star in and executive produce the sci-fi drama series adaptation of the Boom! Studios graphic novel “Old City Blues” for Hulu.

Giannis Milonogiannis’ 2011 comic is set in the year 2048 in New Athens. Amidst the ruins that once was known as Greece lies a hotbed of high-tech criminals, smugglers, drug dealers, corrupt politicians and powerful corporations.

The action follows the New Athens Special Police who endeavor to keep the city in check after the cyborg founder of a tech company is found dead. “Pirates of the Caribbean” helmer Gore Verbinski is attached to direct the series should it move forward, while Black List screenwriter Arash Amel is helping adapt.

Chris Black (“Outcast”) will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Amel, Washington and Verbinski. Allison Davis (“Underground”) will pen the script. Washington is also slated to star in and executive produce Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere” alongside Reese Witherspoon.
