NetherRealm Studios, the developers of the “Mortal Kombat” franchise since the early 2010s, are reportedly going back to their other big franchise – “Injustice”.
The DC combat game’s last entry was 2017’s “Injustice 2” and now Eurogamer reports that there are signs that a select few outside the studio are playing “Injustice 3” right now – presumably testing it.
A since-deleted listing on Good Gamer Group indicated a major AAA 2D fighting game is being playtested in Culver City – where NetherRealm’s parent company Warner Bros. Games is headquartered.
NetherRealm has been forthcoming in confirming that they are working on new projects, saying back in May they are “actively pursuing another Mortal Kombat game” along with “definitely doing more as well”.
The outlet indicates two voice actors and a WB Games artist’s resume all let slip their involvement in “Injustice 3” before walking it back.
Eyes now turn to the Game Awards in December as a potential launching pad for the game’s announcement.
