Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux are set to star in “The White House Plumbers,” a five-part limited series about the Watergate scandal in the works at HBO.
Written by the “Veep” team of Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck and directed by David Mandel, the story is based in part on public records and Egil and Matthew Krogh’s book “Integrity” and follows the true story of how Nixon’s own political saboteurs – E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux) – accidentally toppled the Presidency they were trying to protect.
Hunt and Liddy were CIA officers and members of the Nixon administration’s “plumbers”, a team of operatives charged with identifying government sources of national security information ‘leaks’ to outside parties. Hunt and Liddy were the masterminds behind the Watergate burglaries and other clandestine operations for the Nixon administration.
Harrelson and Theroux will executive produce with Gregory, Huyck, Mandel, Frank Rich, Rubin Fleischer and David Bernad.
