Rising actress Florence Pugh (“Lady Macbeth,” “The Little Drummer Girl”) is in talks to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in the “Black Widow” film for Marvel Studios.
Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland (“Lore,” “Somersault”) helms the spy action thriller and stand-alone tale featuring the Avengers heroine about Natasha Romanoff (Johansson), a spy and assassin who grew up being trained by the KGB before breaking from their grasp and becoming an Agent of SHIELD and Avenger.
Pugh will play a spy on the same level as Romanoff but likely on the other side of the moral line. Jac Schaeffer wrote the most recent draft for the film with shooting slated to kick off in June in London – meaning it will likely be the first Marvel Studios film release of 2020.
Pugh, who is in cinemas now with “Fighting with my Family,” has both Ari Aster’s “Midsommar” and Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” later this year.
