NBC has handed out a straight to series order for “Young Rock,” a series about the early life, tumultuous childhood and formative years of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The first season will consist of eleven episodes, all of which Johnson will executive produce and appear in as a cast member. The exact time in Johnson’s life the series will explore is not specified, but his years leading up to his professional football and wrestling careers are the likeliest.
The pilot is co-written by “Fresh Off the Boat” duo Nahnatchka Khan and Jeff Chiang who also serve as executive producers alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz, and Jennifer Carreras.
NBC has also ordered a pilot for “Debris,” a sci-fi series from J.H. Wyman (“Fringe”) about two agents investigating wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft which has had mysterious effects on humankind.
