Netflix

A new report indicates that acclaimed actress Danielle Deadwyler is reportedly in talks to join “Sinners” director Ryan Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files” franchise.

Nexus Point News broke the news, saying Deadwyler would play one of the lead investigators whose character is partnered with a male investigator in the new series.

The actress scored multiple nominations for her work in “Till” and has built up an impressive resume in the last few years including “I Saw The TV Glow,” “Carry-On,” “The Piano Lesson,” “The Woman in the Yard,” “The Harder They Fall” and “Jane and Emma” along with series like “Station Eleven,” “Paradise Lost,” “Watchmen,” and “P-Valley”.

Coogler is attached to write the pilot, executive produce, and potentially direct the new take on “The X-Files” which is expected to offer a more diverse cast.

The original series saw David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson playing FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who investigated unsolved cases featuring paranormal phenomena ranging from a global conspiracy involving alien colonisation to more monster-of-the-week events.

The original run lasted nine seasons from 1993 to 2001 before being revived for two more seasons in 2016. In total, 218 episodes were produced, along with two feature films.
