Cate Blanchett is set to star as Martha Stewart in the biopic “Good Thing” from filmmaker Janicza Bravo (“Zola”)
Appearing at a New York gala screening this week, Stewart spoke with Variety and said she’s “hearing rumours” that something was already in the works with Blanchett in the lead role and going by that title, which ties back to her catch phrase “It’s a good thing”.
Stewart was the queen of lifestyle media in the 1990s and early 2000s, writing multiple best-sellers, hosting the Emmy-winning DIY and cooking series “Martha Stewart Living” and publishing a popular magazine of the same name.
When her company went public, she became the first self-made female billionaire in the United States.
Then things took a tumble when she was found guilty on felony charges relating to her offloading of stock in ImClone Systems, a case that was very public and saw her serving five months in jail and two years of supervised release.
Ricky Tollman will pen the script while Blanchett, Coco Francini, Randy Manis and Neil Dodson will produce. Blanchett will next be seen in David Zellner’s sci-fi comedy “Alpha Gang” and Alice Birch’s psychodrama “Sweetsick”.
