Smulders Leads “Lincoln Lawyer” Spin-Off

Netflix

Former Marvel alum and “How I Met Your Mother” star Cobie Smulders is set to headline a spin-off of Netflix’s “The Lincoln Lawyer” TV series.

In the series, she plays Mickey Haller’s half-sister Artemisia ‘Emi’ Finch. She was introduced in the show towards the end of the fourth season and is a regular in the upcoming fifth and final season.

That fifth season sees Haller, following a plea by his half-sister, to take on a case to help free a wrongfully convicted woman. Filming has reportedly wrapped on the final run, which is expected to launch sometime next year.

Smulders’ character does not appear in Michael Connelly’s books, which the show is based on – she is an original character designed for the show. She is essentially filling in the gap made by Hieronymous ‘Harry’ Bosch, Mickey’s half-brother and the lead of rival Amazon’s “Bosch” franchise.

If greenlit for production – and some deals have to be closed before it does – the franchise will expand with Smulders’ show, and various characters from “The Lincoln Lawyer” could well appear in the new series, which aims to shoot in Los Angeles and is seeking a California tax credit.

Executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman reportedly worked on the concept for some time and recently pitched the idea to Netflix, which bought it and commissioned a script from the three of them.
