Liam Neeson is set to star in the Robert Lorenz-directed independent action-thriller “The Minuteman” at Voltage Pictures, with shooting to kick off in September on location in New Mexico and Ohio.
The story follows a retired Vietnam veteran who finds himself responsible for the life of a young boy being hunted by the cartel. Lorenz directs from a script he co-wrote with Chris Charles and Danny Kravitz, while Tai Duncan and Mark Williams will produce. [Source: Variety]
Veteran actor Jean Reno has been set to star in Olivier Marchal’s $13 million Marseille-set thriller “Rogue City” at Gaumont. Lannick Gautry, Stanislas Merhar and David Belle also star.
The story follows an anti-gang cop (Reno) with unorthodox methods who investigates a shooting at a local nightclub along with his longtime rival. Filming begins in the south of France in September. [Source: Variety]
Untitled William Burroughs Project
Kristen Stewart will star in Ben Foster’s untitled directorial debut, an adaptation of William Burrough’s early works and letters currently in production for Celluloid Dreams. Foster and Oren Moverman wrote the screenplay for the project which Moverman, Wren Arthur and Ken Kao are producing.
The film will explore an unusual love triangle between Burroughs (Foster) and his common-law muse Joan Vollmer (Stewart) and an American ex-pat named Allerton (Tom Glynn-Carney). Burroughs is regarded as the primary literary outlaw of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, who served as an inspiration to many other writers. [Source: The Wrap]
“Russian Doll” star Natasha Lyonne will join Steve Carell in the ensemble cast of Jon Stewart’s new comedy “Irresistible” for Plan B Entertainment, Focus Features and Universal Pictures International.
The story follows a Democrat political consultant (Carell) who helps a retired ex-Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) run for mayor in a small Wisconsin town. Lyonne’s role is currently unknown while Topher Grace and Rose Byrne co-star. [Source: Variety]
Ryan Kwanten and Kodi Smit-McPhee will star in the Australian sci-fi mystery thriller feature “2067” at Futurism Studios, Arcadia and KOJO Entertainment. Seth Larney directs and Jason Taylor will produce the film which is set in a deforested and oxygen-deprived world reeling from climate change.
Smit-McPhee plays Ethan Whyte, a narcissistic underground tunnel worker who embarks on a journey through time that tests his faith in himself and in humanity. Kwanten plays Jude Mathers, who serves as Ethan’s protector and his conscience. Aaron Glenane and Finn Little co-star. [Source: Deadline]
