Following that big win at the SAG Awards for the cast of Bong Joon-Ho’s “Parasite” last weekend, the helmer has now shared new details about the limited series based in the property that’s in the works for HBO.
Speaking with THR, Bong confirms the series will feature many stories regarding each of the film’s characters – once again suggesting the original cast could well be involved in the series.
It seems the show, which Bong will executive produce with Adam McKay, will serve as a platform for him to explore side storylines he previously mapped out but didn’t have time to include in a feature narrative:
“With cinema, you’re limited to a two-hour running time. But there were so many stories that I thought of that could happen in between the sequences you see in the film, and some background stories for each character.
I really wanted to explore those ideas freely with a five- or six-hour film. You know, with Bergman’s ‘Fanny and Alexander,’ there’s a theatrical version and there’s a TV version. So with the TV series for ‘Parasite,’ I think we’ll be able to create a high-quality, expanded film.”
The comments come as a black-and-white version of the film is set to screen in select theatres in New York and Los Angeles next week.
