Reports are emerging that Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” is having some issues finding itself at this point, around six months before release.
The talk began the other day when John Campea (via GoodCBMTakes) reported on his podcast that the post-production phase wasn’t going well as the directors and editors were struggling to assemble what is expected to be one of the largest-scale films ever made.
He reported: “Apparently, when they shot the movie, everything felt great, everything looked great… but now that they’re editing, they’re discovering some issues” and were having issues “finding the movie in the edit”.
Campea adds that a second source he talked with, who has a connection to the production, dismissed it with a simple text saying “that’s not what I heard”.
Then there’s World of Reel which adds to it, indicating that according to their sources there is some ‘friction’ in the editing room but “they’ll figure it out” and Marvel very much intends to keep its date.
It’s no secret the studio began filming without a completed script and re-writes were happening throughout filming, but that’s not unusual for Marvel and a regular part of its production model.
It’s different to “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” with Tom Holland previously indicating to GQ that he pushed to avoid that approach and really get the script into fighting shape first. Which approach will work better? We’ll know by December.
“Avengers: Doomsday” opens in cinemas on December 18th.
