A sequel to the 2003 Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson-led rom-com “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is reportedly in the works at Paramount Pictures.
Hudson is attached to produce the project, which is in early development with cast and several key creative roles yet to be selected.
The aim of the project is reportedly to have both actors reprise their roles from the original. A screenwriter is currently being sought to come up with a take everyone will warm to, then further casting will proceed from there.
Longtime producer Stacey Sher (“Pulp Fiction,” “Erin Brockovich”) is also on board to produce.
The film will mark the latest in a wave of follow-ups to early 2000s hits with “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Toy Story 5” and “Scary Movie” earlier this year along with “Practical Magic 2” and “Focker-In-Law” coming shortly.
The original saw Hudson as a magazine columnist and McConaughey as an ad executive, both of whom have work-related ulterior motives for getting into a relationship with each other.
Though reviews were mixed, the film was a box office success and made $177.5 million against a production budget of $50 million. McConaughey recently discussed how the original film has been his best in terms of residual income “by far”.
