Ridley Scott: I’m An Influencer, Not A Filmmaker

Filmmaker Ridley Scott is out on the publicity trail for “The Dog Stars,” and says he now sees himself as an ‘influencer’ rather than just a ‘filmmaker’.

Scott has a knack for sassy quotes while out promoting movies, and in a new feature piece for The Times of London, he let fly a few. Describing his own legacy, he’s now embracing the fact his works have inspired others:

“Every time, you are vulnerable. Also, I never want to repeat myself and all my films have been on the money. I’ve been ahead of the game frequently and, if you’re ahead of the game, you’re an influencer. So I’m not a filmmaker, I’m an influencer.”

The 88-year-old, three-time Oscar-nominated director also let loose on the kinds of movies that are being greenlit these days:

“Look, everything now is about a murdered girl in the woods, or an FBI agent who is better than anyone else – or a superhero. F–k me! There have to be other stories to tell.”

He then touched upon what’s next for him, with Scott revealing plans to tackle genres he’s never really done before:

“I’ve never done a Western. I have cast Hugh Jackman for my ‘Treasure Island’ adaptation. I want to do a musical and, also, have a marvelous film about the African elephant.”

Scott will receive an honorary Oscar at November’s Governors Awards.
