While Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” film is currently in the midst of filming, that movie is not officially a part of James Gunn’s DC Universe, seen in the likes of “Superman,” “Supergirl” and October’s “Clayface”.
As far as we’ve all been told, the DC Universe Batman will make his debut in the Andy Muschietti-directed “The Brave and the Bold” film, which was announced with the initial DCU slate a few years back.
Since then, there’s been very little progress. Christina Hodson (“Birds of Prey”) wrote the latest draft of the script, which is expected to be more about the larger ‘Bat family’ with Robin, Damian Wayne, etc. involved.
But when will we get some movement on it? Not for a while, according to journalist Dan Marcus, who recently spoke with Muschietti and was told that all the work on the film has been put on hold until after the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger is settled.
Marcus was responding to a recent rumour that “Obsession” star Michael Johnston was in negotiations to play Dick Grayson/Nightwing in the film.
Officially, Muschietti is still attached to direct, even as rumours have circulated that Gunn himself may be considering taking over. The very public failure of “Supergirl” has given rise to questions over the fate of the DCU and whether Paramount’s David Ellison will continue with it once he takes over.
