Chinese actress Liu Yifei, aka. Crystal Liu (“The Forbidden Kingdom,” “Outcast”) has scored the title role in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated feature “Mulan”.
The actress and model, secured after a yearlong worldwide search that saw nearly 1,000 candidates for the role tested over five continents, will take on the role of Hua Mulan who disguised herself as a man to take her father’s army conscription in fifth-century China.
“Agents of SHIELD” actress Ming-Na Wen voiced the role in the original film. Niki Caro helms the new take which is produced by Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner. The project is eyeing a 2019 release.
