The first tracking numbers are in for Lucasfilm and Disney’s spin-off film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and the projections are very good – the film is slated to open to $130-million-plus in North America over the December 16th-18th weekend.
In fact, some tracking services suggests that figure could approach $150 million by the time of its domestic launch. That would mark the second-biggest December opening of all time after last year’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which opened to a record-setting $248 million domestically ahead of a $2.07 billion worldwide haul.
‘Rogue One’ was never expected to match last year’s “Star Wars” restart, but its success seems guaranteed and is expected to push Disney to a more than $7 billion annual haul in global ticket sales.
