Following on from his success with “The Guard” and “Calvary” along with the upcoming “War On Everyone,” filmmaker John Michael McDonagh has revealed that his next project will be a true crime mini-series for HBO.
Following in the footsteps of the awards and critical success of FX’s “American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson” and to a lesser extent HBO’s “The Night Of,” the new project is said to be based on a book and will be more directly ‘ripped from the headlines’. McDonagh tells Yahoo:
“I’ve got two films in different stages of development, but it looks like what’s going to go next is a HBO miniseries. It’s about 8 hours, too much work, so I’m going to have to write 8 hours worth of TV, but it’s based on a book, so at least I have that to go with. And then I have to direct the bloody thing as well.”
What the book is though he won’t reveal and part of the reason for the secrecy is that there is apparently a rival project brewing. McDonagh’s “War On Everyone” has yet to secure a U.S. release date.
