Bavaria Pictures are set to produce the $7-10 million fantasy drama “Superhero” says Variety.
New Zealand author and filmmaker Anthony McCarten is set to direct from his own critically acclaimed bestselling novel “Death of a Superhero”.
Freddie Highmore and Germany’s Jessica Schwarz are attached to star in the story of a teenage comicbook artist suffering from leukemia who finds escape from the harsh realities of life in his illustrated adventures.
In those stories, the indestructible Miracle Man fights a never-ending battle against his arch-nemesis, the mad scientist known as the Glove.
The film will shoot most of the live-action scenes in New Zealand with animated sequences of the comicbook world rendered by Michael Coldewey’s Munich-based Trixter Fil ( “Lilly the Witch”).
Astrid Kahmke, Philipp Kreuzer, McCarten and Angela Littlejohn will produce. Shooting kicks off later this year.
