Fox’s film adaptation of John Green’s best-selling novel “The Fault In Our Stars” grossed a stellar $8.2 million on Thursday night thanks to late-night shows and a special promotion in approximately 650 locations.
Analysts and studio executives are currently projecting the film will gross between $35-40 million over the course of its first weekend, though the studio is sticking to a mid-20s estimate.
The film will very likely beat out the Tom Cruise-led “Edge of Tomorrow” which grossed a far more anaemic $1.8 million in Thursday night previews.
