Newcomers Ben Winchell (“Necessary Roughness”) and Ana Villafane (“Los Americans”) have signed on to star in the lead roles in the live-action adaptation of the Mattel superhero toy franchise “Max Steel” for Open Road Films and Dolphin Film.
Winchell would play Max McGrath, a teenager with special turbo-energy powers. Together with his alien companion Steel, he becomes the superhero Max Steel. Villafane will play Max’s love interest, Sydney Gardner.
The first in a planned series of Max Steel films, Christopher Yost (“Thor: The Dark World”) penned the script while Stewart Hendler (“H+”) directs. A wide release is planned in the U.S. next year.
